What Percent Is Factory Window Tint
Factory window tint, or privacy glass, works by dying the glass to achieve a dark pigment. This pigment makes the windows appear almost completely black in the light, allowing for complete privacy. Factory window tint has a VLT of 15-20%, meaning 15%-20% of light goes through the windows.
Many new cars will have a factory window tint on the rear windows at the back of the vehicle, however for front and side windows, many states in Australia require that tinting has a minimum of 35% VLT. This means that you can still get a reasonably tinted appearance while complying with regulations.
Benefits of window tint
Window tinting acts to provide a level of privacy and security for your vehicle, but it goes behind the appearance. With less light being transmitted, and more being reflected, tinted windows help maintain the interior’s temperature as well as minimise fading of the interior as a result of sun exposure. Sun damage from excess exposure can also be minimised with drivers using tinted windows. If you want a finish that adds value to your vehicle, tinting could be a great option!
Maintaining window tint
If you choose to get your windows tinted and compliant with your state’s laws, you will want to make sure you get the most out of your investment. In order to maintain the tint keep your windows up for at least 24 hours after the process. Once a few days have passed, regular upkeep includes cleaning with a soft microfibre cloth, and only using mild soapy water if you wish to get out tougher dirt or marks. This will keep your tint looking new and lasting longer.
