How Long Do Tinted Windows Last

Tinted windows are a great way to add value and privacy to your vehicle, but they do fade over time. With the right care and maintenance you can make the most of your investment.

Longevity of tinted windows

A standard tint should last up to 5 years provided you continue with maintenance. Films will fade over time but generally with maintenance they should last a few years. A high grade polyester could potentially also last up to 10 years.

Benefits of tinted windows

Value of your car: Tinted cars reflect light from entering, and thus prevent any fading or damage that could come from overexposure to the sun. Visually tinted windows are also a lot sleeker.

UV and sunlight protection: For your vehicle, but for yourself, tinted windows can reflect sunlight and keep your car cool. UV light is also minimised which is great if you are avoiding sun damage.

Privacy and security: Tinted windows offer an element of privacy and thus added security to your vehicle. The reflective appearance prevents onlookers from peeking through your windows.

How to maintain tinted windows

The first thing to be mindful of is the first few days after tinting. In order to ensure that the tint doesn’t peel or come loose you should keep the windows up for at least 24 hours. Then, when you clean your windows make sure to use a soft, microfibre cloth that won’t damage the tint, and if you need to use something harder to remove stubborn dirt, opt for soapy water or a mild cleaning solution.
