Existing Windscreen Damage
Have Existing Damage?
Existing damage such as a small chip or crack on your vehicles glass may not seem like a priority, but it can lead to long term headaches and financial burden such as failing a roadworthy check.
If unattended, the damage to your windscreen may crack or extend further leading to the entire glass having to be replaced, resulting in a significant increase in cost.
What to do when your windscreen is damaged
DO
- Stop driving if the defect impedes your driving vision in any way
- Contact an Instant Windscreens branch or service centre for the best advice on next steps
- Keep the chip protected from dirt, dust or water as contaminants can impede the repair. Temporarily cover with clear tape if possible
- Avoid direct sunlight – it can weaken the damaged area
- Repair quickly to help avoid a more expensive windscreen replacement
- Make sure your auto glazier uses products and procedures in keeping with all Australian Standards
DONT
- Park in direct sunlight or exposure to extreme wind or rain, as it could exacerbate the problem
- take advice from anyone who is not an experienced auto glazier
- Overuse the air conditioner or defroster. Â Minimise this use as much as possible
- Drive on bumpy roads or off-road terrain
- Visit a carwash or use pressure hoses
- Ignore glass on the dash from the chip/crack. If there is, you need to stop driving the car immediately and contact an Instant Windscreens branch or service provider
